The Crow Hill Company has released an intriguing, Halloween-themed orchestral plugin: Vaults Orchestral FX Strings, now available for free download. Tailored for both macOS and Windows, the plugin is compatible across AU, VST3, VST, and AAX formats, making it accessible to most major DAWs.
A Haunting Sound for Halloween
In a release video on YouTube, The Crow Hill Company’s founder, Christian Henson, gives a captivating overview of the plugin, describing it as “30 string players in a very gothic hall in Glasgow doing one thing, and one thing very well.” From eerie stabs to atmospheric tremolos, Orchestral FX Strings brings horror soundscapes to life, instantly evoking the spine-tingling strings of classic horror scenes, like the famous shower attack sequence in Psycho.
A Limited-Time Offering in the Vaults Series
Vaults Orchestral FX Strings won’t stay forever. As Henson explains in the video, the Vaults series is designed to provide limited-edition tools that are available for six months before they disappear, making room for fresh new instruments. Each month, a new Vaults release debuts, and there are currently six available for download.
Vaults Series Control Scheme
The Vaults series follows a similar control layout across each release. For Orchestral FX, the interface includes:
- Preset Selector at the top
- Main Parameters: Distance and Aberrate
- Additional Controls: Chatter, Spook, Echo, and Splosh
Henson’s demo details how these parameters work. Distance lets users shape proximity, ranging from a close, intimate sound to a distant, wider effect. Aberrate functions as a “reverse pitch echo,” creating an unsettling, alien sound that could fit right into a sci-fi or horror soundtrack.
The additional controls offer further customization, allowing users to adjust Chatter, Spook, Echo, and Splosh effects to craft eerie and unpredictable sounds that feel straight out of a thriller.
